Common mistakes to look out for: Too much focus on it. - Programmed approach. Curriculums. Education centered. If we could program our way to DM fruitfulness we would have already.2. Too little time on it. - Diminish the value of a pathway bc of an all-consuming passion for relational disciple making. Could also include the groups approach. 3. Unwillingness to prune. Must make it simple and remove practices that hinder/slow down disciple making. 4. Not relational. - Disciple makers make disciples not a pathway or programs.

Culture is like a river– For churches, the river metaphor goes back a long way. Puritan Thomas Manton said in the mid-1600’s, “The church is like a river. If it gets wider instead of deeper it will lose its power.” Seeing the church’s culture as a river simplifies culture building, the pathway is the river’s banks.
